[Johannesburg, 5 November 2002] - BI Planning Services, a data warehouse and business intelligence (BI) specialist, was awarded the ‘Implementation of the Year` award at the Cognos Enterprise 2002 event held in Johannesburg last week. The annual awards ceremony is held to recognise outstanding achievements in the field of business intelligence.
The award, voted for by internal Cognos staff and management, was handed to BI Planning Services for its implementation of Cognos at Anglo Coal.
Craig Hart, technical director of BI Planning Services, said: “We have been a Cognos business partner for only 18 months and have already completed over 15 successful implementations. This award is testament to the excellent work that both our staff and the internal Anglo Coal team put into the project.”
“This is an amazing achievement,” says Catharina van der Merwe, marketing communications manager at Cognos. “BI Planning Services is a young company in the South African market and already have an excellent track record. A lot of factors went into deciding who won the award and BI Planning Services met them all to come out tops.”
BI Planning Services expanded the Anglo Coal data warehouse and BI solution to include the HR (Human Resources) and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) business areas. The expansion included the Cognos tool DecisionStream, and the Cognos front-end toolset including PowerPlay Enterprise Server and Impromptu Web Reports.
“The primary factors contributing to the implementation being within budget and on time were a proven methodology, world-class products and superb BI skills,” concludes Hart.
